  • Drainage matters before council were a meeting to consider the closing in of the Kelly Drain located in Ward 3 and a Court of Revision for the McFarlane Drain located in Ward 1.  Council also granted the contract for the Eichenberger Drain to McNally Excavating subject to no appeals to the Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Tribunal being received.
  • Benefit renewals were considered by council with council maintaining the current employee benefit coverage levels and authorizing the renewal of the benefits program with RWAM Insurance Administrators Inc.  The increase in coverage cost of$6,725.04 is to be funded through the insurance reserve.
  • A policy concerning appropriate use of technology was updated to reflect current times to capture a few important changes since 2012 policy
  • Operations reports included the replacement of the swimming pool heater with the quote of Gerber Electric in the amount of $19,615.30 being accepted, Council also approved a by-law prohibiting the use of ORVs on local roads for recreational purposes as mandated by the Province.  This is intended to be an interim situation with discussions to be held with the local ORV Club(s) and affected agencies to, in the future, try to allow low risk use through the development of a plan that would effectively control the use of local roads for recreational purposes consistent with acceptable practices.
  • Gravel tenders were awarded to Johnston Bros. Ltd. which are higher than the previous year.  It was agreed to use the road brine surplus funds to accommodate the increased cost.
  • A termination agreement was accepted by council related to the 2006 agreement between Southwest Middlesex and the affected landowner for use of the unopened road allowance known as Mill Street.  As part of this matter, Council also agreed to enter into a development agreement with the land owners related to the development of Mill Street.  This will bring new homes to the community of Middlemiss.
  • Council delegated the authority to the Treasurer to undertake certain actions related to the cancellation, refund, reduction, or increase of taxes under Sections 354, 357, 358,and 359 of the Municipal Act, 2001 and the apportionment of unpaid taxes in accordance with Section 356 of the Municipal Act, 2001 which follows the advice of MPAC.
  • The unused balance of the budget for the Road and Sidewalk Condition Assessment being $22,443 was agreed to be added to the existing SWM 2021 sidewalk budget.
