Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Application

Responsibilities

The Southwest Middlesex Fire Department is made-up of trained volunteers who do a tremendous job of promoting public fire safety and of protecting your lives and the property of our community. Our volunteers are dedicated to responding to 9-1-1 calls for fire, carbon monoxide, vehicular accidents and medical situations as quickly as possible.

We have two stations serving the municipality - please note that our stations are not staffed on a regular basis:

  • Glencoe Station, 71 Main Street, Glencoe ON N0L 1M0
  • Wardsville Station, 1784 Longwoods Road, Wardsville ON N0L 2N0

Control Burn/Open Burning

  1. Have regard to the Open Air Burning by-law #75/2001 before starting any fires so that you avoid unnecessary fines and/or charges. If you have a control burn situation please call dispatch at 519-245-1300 or 1-844-220-1300 before lighting. Please note that dispatch does not approve the burning they just record that you have reported that you have started a fire that you have complete control of.
  2. Fire Marque Inc.
  3. At the January 22, 2020 council meeting council authorized an agreement designating Fire Marque Inc. as an agent of the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex for the purpose of submitting claims and collecting recoverable expenses with respect to insured perils resulting from the SWM fire department attendance at an incident site.  The program collects supportive fore response service funds through premiums already being collected through most insurance policies.  For more details on what this means please see the FAQ section of Fire Marque Inc. website (www.firemarque.com/faq-municipalities.php).  If you have additional questions, please contact the municipal office at 519-287-2015.
